GAFFNEY LANE OUTDOOR CLASSROOM
What is this project?

My name is Shannon Fernaeus and I teach 6th grade at Gaffney Lane Elementary School. For 5 years I have dreamed of bringing our school and business communities together to create an outdoor classroom featuring shade tress, picnic tables and comfortable areas for students to read and learn. This would be a space the entire school and community could enjoy and use. The outdoor classroom would be located on the Gaffney Lane School property. IT IS HAPPENING!!!
The project involves creating an environmentally friendly space that has a series of trees planted, not only for shade, but also for teaching tree identification and local forest science. I plan to use composite decking material to build  low maintenance, durable picnic tables that will be secured to the site. Our outdoor classroom will have many opportunities and possibilities for expansion and growth  throughout the years and will be a wonderful way to bring our community and school together.
I have approval for the design from the School District and the City of Oregon City.  If you want to get involved either fiancially or as a volunteer please contact me at Gaffney Lane.
